2010 Season Wrap Up Story Archives
Captain Patrick Hawthorne of the U.S. Army Captures Medalist
Honors!
2010
Amatour Tour
Hawaii Qualifying Tournament-
Makaha Resort & Golf Club, March 20 & 21.
3.21.2010--
Captain Patrick Hawthorne
of the U.S. Army, who was the last entry for the Amatour
qualifier, captured the medalist honors for the 2010 Amatour
Hawaii qualifying school at the Makaha Resort. Patrick fired
the low round of the tournament a 69 on Sunday, to catch first
round leader Scotty Yamashita. Patrick eagled the par five
first hole to catch Scotty. He took the lead as Scotty bogied
the third and fourth hole. Alex Chiarella, who flew in from
Maui to enter this event, birdied the first and second holes to
tie Patrick. A double bogie on the ninth hole left Alex chasing
Patrick by three. Joey Tadeo, who recently got his amateur
status back, eagled the 18th hole to leap past Alex
and Scotty to capture second place.
Many of us may have heard of
Patrick Hawthorne, who is from St. Louis, before this event. In
2009, Patrick qualified for the All Army team, he then qualified
for the All Service team and competed in the All World Military
in Namibia. He helped his team capture the All World Service
team title. He place fourth individually. In December, he
married his wife Kari. I would have to say 2009 was a pretty
special year.
This year’s qualifying score to
secure a tour card was 162. We had another exciting playoff,
with Sean Sadaoka and Darin Rilveria capturing the final two
spots. Hector Carvajal made the biggest move as he opened with
an 86 but came back with a 73 to secure his card.
Amatour Hawaii would like to thank everyone who
help launch our 2010 season. Stacy Amann and his staff at
Makaha, did another great job making this event possible. Sue,
Lana, Corrine, and Charlie made everything run smoothly. And
you the players, who participated, it is great to see new faces
as well as familiar faces. Our next event is at Turtle Bay,
April 24 and 25. We have afternoon tee times on Saturday at the
Palmer and early morning tee times on Sunday at the Fazio.

Captain Patrick Hawthorne Wins!
Amatour Hawaii 2010 Ewa Beach
Championship- Ewa Beach Golf Course, June 19 & 20.
6.22.2010--
Captain Patrick Hawthorne fired a
final round 71 to capture the Ewa Beach Championship with a
total of 144. After 27 holes, Patrick tied first round leader
Alika Bell at 1 under for the tournament. Eric Sonnenberg and
Robert Nakagawa trailed by 2 shots at 1 over while Mark Takahama
trailed by 4 shots. Alika had bogies on 10 and 11 and double
bogied 17 to drop back to 4th and finished at 147.
Eric tripled 13 to fall back to 5th and finished at
149. Robert had a bogey free round until the 17th
and finished 3rd at 146.
Standing on the 18th
tee, Patrick had a 4 stroke lead over Mark and Robert but he hit
his tee shot left and looked like it might be OB. His
provisional ball ended up in the lake. Patrick’s first ball
ended up safe by 10 inches, he took an unplayable and ended up
with a double bogey to edge Mark by 1 as Mark birdied the 18th
and finished at 145. For the day, Patrick had 5 birdies
(3, 4, 9, 11, and 14) while Mark birdied 4 out of the last 10
holes (9, 10, 12, and 18). Robert had the low round of the day
70 with birdies on 2, 6, and 9.
Amatour Hawaii would like to
thank Aileen and her staff at Ewa Beach in making this event run
smoothly and having the golf course in such great shape. Sue,
Lana, Corrine, Charlie and Shawn (who was unable to play) helped
make it another successful event.

Alika Bell Wins 2nd Event in 2010!
2010 Battle at
Klipper- Kaneohe Klipper Golf
Course, August 14 & 15.
Alika Bell captured the 2010 Battle at
Klipper with a birdie on the first hole of sudden death with Keli Sur.
Both golfers finished with a two day total of 148. Alika Bell who is
heading off to the University of San Francisco to begin his collegiate
career, birdied the first 2 holes to get off to a quick start as he
trailed first round leader Patrick Hawthorne by 6 shots and Keli Sur by
5 shots. After 27 holes, Keli lead by a shot over Alika and Patrick.
Patrick had a tough start on the back nine as he bogied the 10th
and triple bogied the 11th, he ended up tied for fifth.
Wenhao entered the picture as he birdied 16 and 17 to pull within 1
shot, but a bogey on the tough 18th left him one shot out of
the playoff. On the first playoff hole Alika hit his second shot to
within 3 feet and calmly sank his putt to capture the Battle at Klipper.
The shot of the day was by Beau Belbas as
he made a hole in one on the tough 11th hole. Beau hit a 7
iron and this was his first career ace. Brendon Chun who was playing in
the same group commented that this was the third time he has witness a
hole in one and each time he had to hit next. For those of us you have
not made a hole in one, you might want to request a tee time with
Brendon, just make sure you hit before him on the par 3.
If you had a 2 day total of 157 or better,
your gift certificates can be picked up at the Kaneohe pro shop. Please
call 254-2107 to have the pro shop leave your name at the front gate.
If you would like to play when you redeem your certificate, just let the
pro shop know.
Amatour Hawaii would like to thank Todd
Murata and his staff at Kaneohe Klipper and our volunteers, Sue, Corine,
Lana, and Charlie.
